Two thousand and fourteen years ago a grey bearded man, famed for his ability to tell a good story, sat surrounded by children who gazed up in wonder as he continued his tale:
And so in December, May Ray began to suffer from abdominal pains. She could not concentrate on her homework that she was to have done through the winter break from school. She became a little frightened and once again thought she should seek advice from the doctor, despite thinking she had not been believed when she told him she was going to have a baby. So she walked for 10 minutes and entered the doctor’s surgery. A new sign was displayed at reception. She read that the next urgent appointment with a doctor would not be until the next day and the next routine appointment was four weeks away. Without speaking to anyone, May turned and started to walk home.

Within a few minutes she was brought to a standstill by a sharp pain in her belly. May Ray groaned and panted a few times as the pain dissipated. Watching this was Joe, who was just packing up his tools to leave a job he was doing in one of the houses nearby. Seeing May Ray’s evident suffering and noticing that she was all alone, Joe’s caring side overtook him. He approached May Ray and as she looked up to him he asked, “Are you alright, May?”
May burst into tears. When at last she regained sufficient composure, she said once more in a timid voice, “Joe. Will you help me?”
Joe without hesitation took May Ray by the hand, “What do you need?” He said urgently.
“I think I must get to the hospital, Joe”, she stammered.
“Right. I will go with you. Come on.” said Joe as he led May Ray down the street.
