Two thousand and fourteen years ago a grey bearded man, famed for his ability to tell a good story, sat surrounded by children who gazed up in wonder as he continued his tale:
“Tummy pains,” said Joe and he glanced at May Ray wondering if she would offer any more explanation, but she did not, “How long will it be?” he asked anxiously. The receptionist failed to reply but pointed to a board. ‘A and E waiting times over 4 hours’ he read.
The couple sat in reception, and whilst they waited they saw through the full length windows that snow was falling. Soon there was a white covering to the tarmac paths they had come down. Now a couple of hours had passed and May Ray realised that she had had no further pains in that time and though she felt strangely uncomfortable, she no longer considered herself ill or at risk of something dreadful. Once more in a timid voice she said, “Joe, I think I would like to go home.”
“Then I think we had better go now, before the snow gets any deeper.” said Joe as he got to his feet.
