Doctors fail to CliMAX!
Gallery of Annual GPs v Consultants Match
at Temple Grafton CC - 22 September 2012
MRJ powers one through the off side
Regular cricketers have had their season wrecked by rain, but the doctors who picked an unlikely day in September for their annual match between Warwick Hospital Consultants and Warwickshire GPs were decidedly jammy. The sun shone and Temple Grafton groundsman Howard Benjamin had left them a dry ptich.
Captain Terry Gasper came out of retirement to marshal a motley band who kept their heads whilst the Consultants screeched and scrambled and failed to be in their ground to prevent a number of near suicidal run outs. Aa ever David Rapley was modest about his ability to rip the middle order out of any line up whilst Bill 'Michael Vaughan' Fitchford ran through the rabbits like a hungry ferret. Despite the GPs efforts, Matt Stanislas's Consultants must have been pleased with 160 runs from 25 overs of mahem!
Though unable to entice the doctors to have their first CliMAX, Peter Gregory was himself enticed to open the batting. He was stretched to see off the Fred Trueman of the Consultants - Hugh Cable. Just as runs began to flow Peter was retired have gone past 20 and set the pattern for three more upper order GPs. Martin Read-Jones occupied the crease and the with Nigel Wood most of the photographs taken for the CliMAX website. David Rapley heaved at his first ball and retired with a tweak in his side a ball later. The GPs overcame the consultants score with a few overs to go. With the GP winning for the 5th year running, it is understandable that they were a little frightened to change the format to CliMAX.M
